What direct claims handling is and why it saves you time

Direct claims handling (otsekäsitlus) means you do not have to take your car to the insurer’s claims department. You come straight to our workshop; we document the damage, prepare the estimate and deal with the insurer until the repair authorization letter (garantiikiri) is issued. Your role is to bring the car and sign the claim form – the rest is our job.

We work with every insurance company operating in Estonia: If, ERGO (including the former Gjensidige), PZU, Swedbank, Seesam (including the former Compensa), Salva, BTA, Inges and LHV. If your policy was arranged through the broker IIZI, you can submit the claim notice directly in our Kahjuabi portal.

You have the right to choose the repair shop

The code of good practice on choosing a repair company issued by the Estonian Motor Insurance Bureau (LKF) is clear: the injured party has the right to choose a car repair shop of their liking. The insurer may recommend its partners but cannot oblige you to use them. If you choose us, we are responsible for the quality of the repair – and we give a 1-year warranty.

We follow the vehicle insurance code of good practice and the LKF paint quality standards. Estimates are prepared in the CABAS system used by all Estonian insurers – so approval is fast and transparent.

What to bring when you come to us

  • The car, if it is safe to drive (otherwise we send a tow truck)
  • Vehicle registration certificate
  • Driving licence
  • The accident report form (teade liiklusõnnetusest), if it has been filled in
  • Any other documents relating to the incident (police certificate, letters from the insurer)

Kasko or motor liability – what is the difference in the claims process?

For a motor third-party liability (compulsory) claim, the claim is made against the at-fault party’s insurer and the injured party pays no deductible. For a comprehensive (kasko) claim, the claim notice goes to your own insurer and your policy deductible (omavastutus) is subtracted from the repair invoice. For minor damage (e.g. a car park dent), it is worth working out before reporting whether repairing without insurance – for example with paintless dent removal – comes out cheaper than the deductible. We help you make that decision.

Process

How the insurance claim process works with us

From vehicle inspection to the start of the repair takes 3–4 weeks on average. We keep you informed at every stage.

  1. 1

Bring the car in for inspection

    Same day

Bring the damaged car to us at Telliskivi 57D at a time that suits you, Mon–Fri 8:30–17:30. On site we copy your documents, fill in the claim notice (kahjuteade) and send it to the insurer. If the car cannot be driven, our tow truck will collect it.

  2. 2

    Inspection and photos

    30–60 min

We photograph and document every bit of damage. If the vehicle is safe to drive, you can keep using it until we call you in for the repair.

  3. 3

    Repair estimate

    ~2 working days

We prepare a repair estimate (CABAS) and send it to the insurance company together with the claim file.

  4. 4

    Repair authorization from the insurer

    1–2 weeks

The insurer reviews the file and issues a repair authorization letter (garantiikiri). If there is a police investigation, this can take longer.

  5. 5

    Ordering parts

    up to 1 week

We contact you ourselves, agree on the repair date and whether you need a courtesy car (asendusauto), and order the parts.

  6. 6

    Repair

    1–5 working days

Minor damage is repaired in 1–3 working days, medium damage within a working week, major damage takes longer. You get a courtesy car for the duration of the repair.

  7. 7

    Quality check and handover

    3–4 weeks in total

We check the finished work, wash and clean the car and call you to pick it up. All work is covered by a 1-year warranty.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to report the damage to the insurer before coming to you?

No – we fill in the claim form with you on site and send it to the insurer. If you have already reported it, bring the claim number with you.

How long does it take to get the repair authorization letter?

On average 1–2 weeks after the estimate is submitted. Longer if there is a police investigation or a dispute. We keep you informed.

Will the insurer accept your estimate?

As a rule, yes – we use the CABAS system and follow the LKF code of good practice rates. If the insurer wants its own expert to inspect the car, we arrange that at our workshop.

Do you use new or used parts?

According to the insurer’s decision and the LKF code of good practice: parts with the same degree of wear, or new parts if those are not available. We always agree it with you first.

Can I get a cash payout instead of a repair?

A cash settlement is the insurer’s decision and rather the exception. We can ask the insurer about this option if you wish.

Do you also handle claims for vans and company cars?

Yes, we handle claims and body repairs for vans and company fleets too.
